     My decision to personally sponsor a child in Vietnam was partially motivated by my experience with the tragedies of war - something I wrote about in my book "Land of Childhood's Fears". After all of this time had passed, I guess I decided that it was finally time to finally "... un-sing [my] part in the harmony of death's ugly song". Everyone has seen the commercials - and everyone is guilty of "conspicuous consumption". We have so much, and we take so much for granted. We spend money like water, and like the rich man who refused Lazarus the beggar the crumbs from his table,* we go about our everyday lives like these children don't even exist. I am not asking you for much - all I'm asking you to do is spare the crumbs of your abundance in order to save the life of ONE child. Please. Do it NOW.
