Megan's Law

     An allegation of sexual abuse (false or not) has become the exception to the presumption "innocent until proven guilty "beyond a reasonable doubt" and "to a moral certainty" as is the standard for every other type of crime - except perhaps an allegation of terrorism under the USA Patriot Act. If you are falsely accused of a sex crime, you will exhaust every bit of money you have fighting the case, and you still may wind up in prison. To add insult to injury, you will be branded for life - like no other criminal - and no matter how the Supreme Court rules, this type of branding violates the 8^th Amendment of the US Constitution.

     No matter what the offense, the People of the United States can no longer tolerate the routine violation of Constitutional rights, since violation of those rights have resulted in thousands of false convictions (a small percentage of which have been overturned by The Innocence Project with the use of DNA technology).

     I have put this section together to illustrate that these laws not only don't work, their cost is unjustified, and have the potential to increase the severity of the crimes they are intended to prevent. Post-conviction (and post-release) requirements of Megan's Law are simply what I call "Preventive Prosecution".
