A special place in my heart is reserved for the people of Kairos Prison Ministry. This organization is spreading like wildfire - across the country and across the globe - the ministry is blessed by the Lord because they do the Lord's work here amongst those forgotten men and women behind bars that the prophet Isaiah lamented about. Many people who formerly "wouldn't be caught dead visiting prisoners", end up spending lots of time behind bars in fellowship with prisoners who love Jesus. The Kairos ministry does UNHEARD-OF things - their genuine love for the "outcasts" of society is beyond eloquence to describe. They cook great food and bring it to prisoners who haven't had a decent meal in YEARS. They give up their vacations, and even spend their wedding anniversaries and Christmas holidays in the most dreaded hell-holes in the country. More importantly, they express a genuine, heartfelt love that is entirely foreign to many who are locked up. Why would anyone "in their right mind" want to spend Christmas with a bunch of murderers, rapists, and thieves? The motivations are endless, but the result is miraculous. A prisoner at Wende Correctional Facility in 2003 once asked a female volunteer, "Aren't you just a little bit scared coming in here with all these thugs?" Without a bit of hesitation, she replied, "Oh, no - I feel a lot safer here with the Lord in our midst than I do walking down the street in my own neighborhood".
