get one thing straight from the git-go... We are NOT
going to make restaurant reviews a feature of this Web
site. Although I have been contracted to build Web sites
for several restaurants
in Jersey City, this article has nothing to do with
being paid to do Web sites.
ONLY reason this page is here at all is that after being
taken to Carrabbas several times by my good friend Art Bernklau.
Being of Austrian / German
heritage and raised in a Northern-Italian home that
prides itself on genuine Italian cuisine, and having
eaten in every Italian Restaurant in Little Italy (NY
City), I was very impressed by Carrabbas. So this review
is totally unsolicited.
Bernklau is a regular at Carrabbas; I live in Jersey
City, so the only time I get to Carrabbas is when I'm
not Zagat here. If you don't know who Zagat is, well, no
great loss. Let me tell you that I've been to
restaurants that had a TOP Zagat rating, and wished I
had gone to Taco Bell, instead.
what good, home-style Italian food looks, smells, and
tastes like... trust me! So does my friend Art Bernklau.
I can tell you for a fact, that in my 59 years, and in
Art's 74 years, between the both of us, we cannot recall
a better dining experience anywhere we've ever been...
even at home.
that's 133 "man-years" of experience with eating Italian
food, and if someone were to ask
"Where's the best
Italian Restaurant you know of?",
both of us would send you to Carrabbas. Is that a more
credible endorsement than from a few people who work for
a magazine walking in for the first time and writing
short essays and giving out "stars"? You be the judge -
after you eat there.
Carrabbas, you can even sit at the counter at
(the Kitchen) and watch them prepare your meal. The
restaurant has a brick oven, which is why their bread
and pizza is so delicious.
Carrabbas is definitely a great Italian dining
experience. The service is fantastic, and the food is
simply the best there is. If I were to sum up our
multiple experiences at Carrabbas in a single sentence,
it would be this:
is the Peter
Luger's of Italian
