Most likely, the abducted child knows his / her abductor, and has communicated with the perpetrator in some manner. Child abductions via the Internet is not uncommon, and what you can do in parallel with a physical search for the child, is to have an expert examine the child's computer and have the Internet Service Provider give the investigator the address of anyone the child has sent e-mails to, or has chatted with online.
