This book is the author's first published work. From 1995 to 1998 it sold over 35,000 copies.... not bad for a self-published book.
This first edition is currently out of print, and I am working on a revision to bring it up to speed with the latest GPS technology. There are approximately 50 copies left in the author's possession. This book is a classic, because it was the FIRST hiking and camping guidebook ever written that used the Global Positioning System to guide the reader down trails, to campsites and historical markers, and into remote areas of wilderness.
The book was originally published by Telson Communications, Inc. (Telson USA), it was originally printed by Rose Printing Company.
Featuring hand-painted (with Corel's "Paint" program) 7" x 10" full color covers, and acid-free paper, perfect bound, lay-flat binding, the book has become a much sought-after collector's item.
Originally priced at $35.00, this book was in demand as far away as Australia, even though the camping / hiking trips were limited to New York and New Jersey, and part of Pennsylvania. The reason for the overseas demand was its excellent technical section, which taught the reader how to navigate using GPS receivers, and how to modify them for increased performance. Also included in the book are several recipes which are now on this web site, and a section on Murphy's Laws, Proverbs and Old Sayings, and other things that made the book a BLAST to read around a campfire. Included with the book was a 1.44MB diskette with a 50-page novella (which is being re-written and separately published), and a host of PC programs and articles about using GPS.
The author has a few cases of the ORIGINAL book left. They are being sold WITH THE AUTHOR'S AUTOGRAPH for $100.00 each. Proceeds from the sales will be used to sponsor a child in a third-world nation via a Christian charity. In exchange for your Ben Franklin, you will have an AUTOGRAPHED COPY of THE FIRST GPS trail guidebook ever published, and the satisfaction that a needy child somewhere in the world, will have food and medical care.
