Installing a home security system is a good idea for a
number of reasons. Besides saving you money on your home
insurance, a security system
‒ especially one with CCTV cameras
‒ can help police catch a criminal and restore stolen property.
Prior to finding this home, I used a Lorex®
wireless camera system in my motel room.
moved into this home six months before I closed the mortgage
in order to repair extensive damage due to vandalism. During
that time, I needed security (although this is a very fine
neighborhood) because I had thousands of dollars in tools
and PC equipment in the house. I elected to use the Lorex®
wireless camera system I used in the motel (adding two more
cameras for a total of 4) for the interim The system was
easy to install with no wiring at all. In case the deal on
the house fell through, or I decided that I didn't want the
house after all, I wouldn't have days of work invested in an
installation that I would have to un-do to remove my
to owning the home, my Internet access was gained with a
LinkSys® WWRT router connected to a parabolic
antenna "borrowing" a wi-fi connected from a nearby "open"
system. The speed wasn't great, but was tolerable. As soon
as I turned on the wireless security cameras, however, the
wi-fi signal slowed down to something comparable to Wild
West Morse code
‒ my Commodore-64 in the late '80s was MUCH faster! This was
because wireless security cameras use a broad range of
frequencies (spread-spectrum) right on the same "channels"
as wi-fi, and even switching the router to the
band didn't help. When I installed cable wi-fi (Comcast),
the problem persisted. I only needed the cameras "on" when I
was out of the house, and so I turned the security system
off when I was home. I didn't need to turn the (4)
individual cameras off; all I had to do is turn the monitor
off. The cameras don't transmit when the data "handshake" to
the monitor is absent.
addition to interfering with my wi-fi connection, I learned
of wireless cameras, and wireless security systems (Internet
or cellular network-based) in general

cell phone jammer that any schmuck can buy over the
